SPS provides customized presentations of all lengths from short keynote / motivational presentations, to half, full, or even multi-day workshopson a wide variety of topics in the area of People Based Safety. Delivery can be customized for any audience ranging from executive/senior leaders, supervisors, EHS staff and hourly employees.
Each of our presenters has more than two decades of experience presenting to audiences within individual companies as well as at national and international conferences. With a demonstrated ability to entertain while teaching, our team members inspire participants to apply the principles and tools they learn by becoming key members of their organization's safety improvement efforts.
Below are just a few of the topics available. If you don't see what you're looking for, give us a call - we have many more workshops. In addition, specific topics can be tailored or created on request.
- Keys to a World Class Safety Culture
For improved safety performance, an organization's safety culture must promote a sense of shared responsibility for safety through genuine empowerment. The organization should truly value safety and everyone in the organization needs to feel responsible for others' safety as well as their own. Further, the culture must inspire individuals to act on that feeling of responsibility by taking action every day to prevent injury to others. We refer to this as Actively Caring which is the cornerstone of a world-class safety culture. This presentation helps participants understand just what is needed to achieve a world-class safety culture.
- Human and Organizational Performance (HOP)
This presentation focuses on understanding HOP principles to reduce human error. Topics include hazard recognition traps, latent conditions where errors may occur, layers of defenses, and normalization of deviance.
- Designing Jobs to Encourage Mindfulness and Reduce Error
Operating on automatic pilot regardless of the situation can lead to errors, property damage and injury. This workshop focuses on the structure or design of jobs and tasks that influence mindfulness and error reduction.
- Engaging Employees for Safety
This presentation focuses on energizing employees to be more actively engaged in safety. Ways to improve employee person states and attitudes are addressed along with an explanation of behavior analysis as it relates to motivating safe behaviors and eliminating safety shortcuts.
- Behavior-based Incident Investigations
You've heard it before – behavior contributes to 80%-90% of all incidents, right? But that does NOT mean that an investigation should end there. Like all behavior, those that contribute to incidents are influenced by the context within which the behavior occurs. Audiences learn to appreciate and uncover the underlying causes of system influenced at-risk behavior – whether the behaviors are purposeful risk taking or human error.
- Personality and Risk
Everyone, at least occasionally, performs behaviors that put them at risk for injury. There are a number of personality factors which contribute to an individual's risk taking tendencies and therefore his/her tendency to perform at-risk behaviors. This workshop includes an individual assessment of participants' own unique scores on key risk taking personality factors. If individuals understand the personality factors which influence risk-taking and understand their own levels of these personality factors, they can learn and use strategies to help themselves choose safe behaviors in situations where they might otherwise take a risk. Further, if leaders understand how personality influences risky behavior, they can be far more effective coaches, helping to encourage employee to choose safe rather than risky behaviors.
- Leadership for a World Class Safety Culture
Creating a high performance safety culture requires a common vision and effort from everyone. SPS helps address leadership's role in changing, supporting, and maintaining a positive culture as a part of their daily operations. We help define the critical leadership behaviors (roles and responsibilities) needed to achieve safety excellence and help leaders develop the skills needed to excel at these responsibilities.
- The Front Line Supervisor as a Safety Culture Change Agent
The front line supervisor is key to successful safety performance. SPS helps provide supervisors the "people skills" needed to successfully contribute to the vision of a Total Safety Culture. We define the specific behaviors needed from supervisors, help them develop the skills needed to excel at those responsibilities, and introduce accountability processes to support their performance. Areas of focus include coaching/mentoring skills, communication skills, and the influence of management practices and systems on safety performance.
- Advanced Communication Skills for Safety
This intensely participant-driven workshop focuses on specific communication styles (e.g., Sheriff, Diplomat, Investigator) as they relate to optimal safety communication. Strategies for improving safety communication are provided including acknowledging safe work behaviors, respectfully providing corrective feedback for risky actions, and improving non-verbal communication.
We work directly with you to develop a workshop that focuses on your audience, your objectives and your current skills. Give us a call and let us see if we can help.
